From tomorrow at 10.30 in the morning, until 6 in the afternoon, the body of David Sassoli will be exhibited in a public pilgrimage, in the “Della Protomoteka” hall of the city hall of Rome.
This is the same room in which the Romans leave a flower or say a prayer for their loved ones who “left”, for the “long journey”. As happened last summer, with Rafaela Kara.
The funeral will be held on Friday, at 12 noon, at public expense. It was decided by the government of Mario Draghi, as a sign of respect and recognition of Sassoli’s important contribution, both in the field of journalism and politics.
In their statements to the Italian public television Rai, even today, close associates of the former President of the European Parliament referred to their special social sensitivity: as they pointed out, for the first time, on Sassoli’s initiative, the European Parliament was so strongly involved in supporting many people in difficulty -even without food- due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
The funeral of the Italian journalist and politician on Friday will be attended by, among others, the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Matarella, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Sal Michel, European Heads of State and officials .
