The US Supreme Court today (14/1) agreed to consider the appeal of a Christian former American high school football coach, who was fired from his job in the state of Washington, because he refused to stop praying in the middle of the field after matches, in a case that could extend the religious rights of employees to public bodies.
The judges appealed to Joseph Kennedy, who served as assistant football coach in Bremerton, against a lower court ruling that ruled that the school district’s actions violated his freedom of speech and religious rights. First Amendment to the US Constitution.
The 9th San Francisco-based U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against Kennedy last year, saying local officials would have violated the government’s First Amendment ban on religion if they allowed Kennedy’s prayers to continue. .
