The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) posted a minute and a half of audio on its Telegram channel of the alleged conversation, where two men are said to be discussing the aftermath of the disaster in Russian.
The Internal Security Service of Ukraine said today that intercepted a phone call which proves that a Russian “sabotage group” blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric station and dam in southern Ukraine.
The destruction of the facility on Tuesday, June 6 resulted in massive flooding, forcing thousands of residents to leave their homes and causing ecological havoc.
Russia and officials close to it in Ukraine blamed Kiev for the dam’s destruction but have given varying explanations.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) posted a minute and a half of audio on its Telegram channel of the alleged conversation, where two men are said to be discussing the aftermath of the disaster in Russian.
“They (the Ukrainians) didn’t hit it. It was our own sabotage group,” said one of the men, who the SBU says is a Russian soldier. “They wanted to scare (the people) with this dam.”
“It didn’t go according to plan and (they did) more than they planned.”
The SBU did not elaborate on the conversation or its participants. He said a criminal investigation into war crimes and “homicide” had been launched.
“The invaders wanted to blackmail Ukraine by blowing up the dam and caused a man-made disaster in the south of our country,” the SBU said in a statement.
