Three civilians were killed during a drone strike in Odessa, on the Black Sea, early this morning when debris from a drone fell on a block of flats, sparking a fire, the Ukrainian military said.

Air defenses in the Odesa region shot down eight “Shahed” drones and two missiles in the latest series of nighttime airstrikes on Ukrainian cities, a spokesman for the southern military command said.

Due to the action of the anti-aircraft defense, “debris from one of the drones fell into a high-rise building, causing a fire,” officer Natalya Humeniuk said in a statement.

Emergency services said 27 people were injured, including three children, but the fire was quickly extinguished and 12 residents were rescued from the building.
