Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolence on the death of Silvio Berlusconi, calling him a “dear friend” and an “excellent politician”.

“Berlusconi will be remembered in Russia as a firm and main supporter of strengthening friendly relations between our countries,” Putin said, paying tribute to the former Italian prime minister. “For me Berlusconi was a dear person, a true friend and I am honestly in awe of his wisdom and ability to make decisions,” the Russian president added.

“A great politician who left a deep mark on the history of Italy, on the world and on Russian-Italian relations,” he emphasized.

“We are deeply shocked by the news of Silvio Berlusconi’s death,” the message reads. “A visionary, a man of great abilities and a big heart. Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and all the Italian people,” he concludes.

It is recalled that despite the anger prevailing in the West over the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Berlusconi remained steadfast in declaring for his old friend Vladimir Putin.
