Austrian security services said on Sunday they had foiled a planned attack on Saturday’s pride parade in the capital.

According to Reuters, three suspects aged between 14 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of planning to attack the parade in Vienna, which was held to celebrate the rights of LGBTQ+ people and attracted about 300,000 people, officials said.

“Through the successful and timely intervention, we were able to defuse the moment of danger for Vienna Pride and ensure the safety of all participants,” said Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of Austria’s intelligence service.

He did not elaborate on what the attack would consist of, but said items banned under Austria’s weapons law were seized in searches of the suspects’ homes.

The Vienna police and the Austrian state security service were involved in the operation.
