Four people were killed today by explosion noted in a Russian factory of gunpowder, Russian state news agencies reported, with a local official ruling out the possibility that the explosion was caused by an attack.

The explosion occurred at a factory in the area Tabof, about 400 kilometers southeast of Moscow. Eight people were injured in the incident, the RIA news agency reported.

Parts of southern and western Russia are on high alert after a series of attacks — which Moscow blames on Ukraine — particularly on war-related targets such as fuel supplies and weapons depots.

Ukraine does not comment on military operations outside its borders.

Maxim Yegorov, regional governor of Tabov, however, said that today’s incident was caused by human error.

“The cause of the fire is the human factor. I categorically state that this is not a terrorist attack. Unfortunately, there are human losses. All necessary assistance will be provided to the victims,” Yegorov said on Telegram.

The fire was extinguished and the plant is now operating normally, he said.
