The Montreal-based ICAO also reiterated its call on Pyongyang to abide by its civil aviation obligations
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), part of the UN system, condemned recent missile launches by North Korea on Thursday, saying they violated Security Council resolutions and put “international civil aviation at serious risk.”
The Montreal-based ICAO also reiterated its call on Pyongyang to honor its civil aviation obligations.
North Korea has carried out new launches this year in defiance of UN resolutions, notably testing its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile and, last month, attempting to launch a military spy satellite.
Last week, Pyongyang fired two short-range ballistic missiles that landed inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) after warning it would “inevitably” respond to the ongoing joint South Korean-US military drills.
Since tensions on the peninsula escalated again in 2019, North Korea has accelerated the development of its arsenal and has now described as “irreversible” the status of a nuclear power it has acquired through the mouth of its leader Kim Jong Un.
