The political class reacted strongly. Today, on the BBC, Justice Secretary Alex Chalk criticized her the BBC’s decision not to suspend the presenter since the first revelations.
“Since such serious and disturbing allegations have been made and the BBC has been made aware of them, I would expect the person in question to be suspended,” he said.
Shortly after an emergency phone call between Culture Secretary Lucy Fraser and the public broadcaster’s chief executive Tim Davey, the BBC said in a statement on Sunday “that a male member of staff was suspended and that the BBC is “trying to establish the facts as quickly as possible”.
Last night, London police said they had been made aware of the case by the BBC “but no formal charges have been made”.
