Three Russian passenger jets granted special permission to enter Finnish and Estonian airspacein order to avoid storms with intense lightning, officials of the two countries announced today.
The 27 member states of the European Union have closed their airspace to all Russian aircraft as part of sanctions imposed on Moscow over its troops’ invasion of Ukraine.
The Aviation Service of the Russian Federation (Rosaviatsiya) today thanked the authorities of Finland and Estonia for their help.
These are three flights of Rossiya, Ural Airlines and Nordwing airlines from or to Kaliningrad, yesterday Wednesday. Due to the ban on entering the airspace of EU countries, the pilots of the Russian aircraft are forced to follow a course around the coasts of the Baltic countries towards St. Petersburg.
The Finnish Transport Agency (Fintraffic) has confirmed that exceptional permits have been issued due to dangerous weather conditions.
