Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urging allies to expedite the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to his country to help the Ukrainian armed forces drive out Russian invaders.

“Our goal is to bring closer the time when the F-16s will help us keep the Russian terrorists at bay,” he said in a video message released Friday night.

Denmark and the Netherlands agreed earlier this week to deliver F-16s to Ukraine, following Zelensky’s visit to those countries. Norway became the third country to pledge such fighter jets to Kiev during Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere’s visit to the Ukrainian capital on Thursday.

Kiev has received assurances of delivery of dozens of F-16s, but a timetable has not been set. With the US-made fighter jets, the Ukrainian armed forces aspire to significantly increase their firepower against Russian invaders and better patrol Ukrainian airspace.

Zelensky assured that efforts are being made to organize more training programs for Ukrainian pilots and maintenance technicians, stressing that “we must make sure that Ukraine will be fully prepared.”
