The opening of the Pavilion will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. At the Delegation’s stand, visitors will be informed about sustainable and digital development and related European programs.
The Representation of the European Commission in Greece participates for the fifth consecutive year with its own stand (No 10) at the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki (TIF), with a multitude of events and informative activities.
The opening of the Pavilion will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. At the Delegation’s stand, visitors will be informed about sustainable and digital development and related European programs.
They will also be able to take part in various events and activities organized by Europe Direct Central Macedonia Perrotis College and Europe Direct Thessaloniki – KEDITH throughout the duration of the Exhibition. The central theme of the Delegation’s presence this year is the “European model of sport”, i.e. how sport contributes to the promotion of European values ​​and peace.
The opening event will take place on Saturday, September 9, at 2:15 p.m., entitled “European model of sports – Sports for all” (room A of the Nikolaos Germanos Conference Center at the TIF, 2:15-5 p.m.) and the keynote speaker will be the Vice-President of the European Commission , responsible for the Promotion of our European Way of Life Mr. Margaritis Schinas.
The aim of the event is to highlight that sport is inextricably linked to the European way of life as an integral part of the lives of many Europeans and that sport ‘unites’, strengthening social inclusion and building a world without exclusion and discrimination.
The event will include three sections, in which well-known personalities of European and Greek sports will participate:
1. Debate on “The European Sports Model”
Speakers
– Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Promoting our European Way of Life
– Thodoris Zagorakis, former international soccer player, MEP
– Angelos Charisteas, former international soccer player, Deputy Regional Governor of Central Macedonia
– Theodoros Theodoridis, General Secretary of UEFA and
– Romain Evain, General Manager of Football Supporters Europe
A dialogue will follow with young people from high schools, sports schools and organizations, universities and sports clubs of Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia.
2. Debate on “Sports, inclusion and social cohesion”
Speakers
– Maria Michalopoulou, professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science and member of the Management Board of Democritus University of Thrace, scientific manager of Europe Direct Eastern Macedonia-Thrace
– Lora Pappa, President of “Metdrasis”, an NGO active in the protection of unaccompanied minors and implementer of the “Together in sports” project
– Cisse Vafin, former unaccompanied minor from Guinea and football player of the Samos Athletic Club who just graduated from Pythagorean High School and
– Voula Patoulidou, Olympian, Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki.
3. Debate on “Sports, people with disabilities and transplants”
Speakers
– Vicky Ago, 1st scorer of the National Team in Para-Olympic Goalball
– Elias Mastoras, President of the International Blind Sports Federation Football Committee and founder of the NGO “Youthorama”, winner of the 2022 Emerging Leader award for the project “A ball for all”
– Irini Mihailidis, pan-European road champion in transplant races and
– Antonis Tsapatakis, Greek Paralympic swimmer.
The event will be moderated by journalist Mr. Apostolos Maggiriadis.
To participate in the event you must register by the evening of September 8, by 15.00.
Priority will be given due to the limited number of seats and it will not be possible to enter the hall without prior registration and the corresponding entry card.
The main debate that will follow the Speech of the President of the European Commission on the State of the European Union in 2023 at the Plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg (State of the Union 2023) will take place this year in Thessaloniki. A joint information event of the Delegation of the European Commission and the Office of the European Parliament in Greece, on the presence of the European Union in the Region of Central Macedonia will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 18.00-20.00 (room B of the Nikolaos Germanos Conference Center at the TIF)
