Norway following Finland, the Baltic countries and Poland, prohibits since October 3 the entry of passenger cars with Russian license plates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today Friday.

This move suggests part of the measures taken by the West and which are aimed at to limit Russia’s revenues, which it is using to finance its invasion of Ukraine.

“Sanctions are important to be effective to prevent as much as possible the revenue that the Russian state needs to finance the war,” said Foreign Minister Annika Hutfeld.

Vehicles owned by Norwegian citizens or EEA (European Economic Area) citizens with permanent residence in Russia or their family members will be exempt from the ban, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified.

Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have previously introduced similar bans under a European Commission directive.
