THE Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that nothing was going to weaken Ukraine’s resolve in the war against Russia, a day after the US Congress approved an emergency funding bill for the US federal government, but the law did not include new aid to Ukraine.

Also, the Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stressed that in a telephone conversation he had with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin, he received assurances that Kiev would receive further military assistance from Washington.

“Secretary Austin has assured me that US support to Ukraine will continue and that Ukrainian soldiers will continue to have strong support on the battlefield,” Umerov told X.

The representative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko he also stressed that the Ukrainian government is working with its American partners “to ensure that the new decision on the American budget, which will be made in the next 45 days, will include new funding to help Ukraine.” He sought to reassure Ukrainians about future US support, noting that previously approved funds would not be affected.

The USA have helped Kiev more than anyone else, releasing some $110 billion in civilian and military aid since February 2022.

Zelensky, in a videotaped speech on the occasion of Defender’s Day, did not directly refer to yesterday’s vote in Congress, but reiterated his determination to fight until victory.

As he said, Ukraine will stop resisting and fighting only the day it wins. “As we get closer to victory, every day, we say, ‘We will fight as long as it takes.'”

The president of the USA Joe Biden pledged today that Washington would not abandon Ukraine, underscoring that Republicans had pledged to approve additional aid to Ukraine in a separate vote.
