The countdown to her discovery began when police found the suspect’s fingerprints on a ransom note that had been delivered to the family
The disappearance of 9-year-old Charlotte Senna, whose tracks were lost last Saturday in New York while she was cycling, had a happy ending.
After her disappearance, the police were alerted and an investigation was launched involving 400 of their members as well as volunteers from fire services and private groups. After nearly 48 hours, the 9-year-old was found “safe and well.” The authorities took her to a hospital for precautionary reasons.
The countdown to finding her began when police found the suspect’s fingerprints on a ransom note that had been delivered to the family. Authorities were able to identify him as the fingerprint was already in the database following a drink-driving incident in 1999.
The suspect was located at a home belonging to his mother and arrested. “After some resistance, the suspect was taken into custody and immediately the little girl was found in a closet,” New York Gov. Kathy Hokul said at a news conference Monday night.
The perpetrator is 47-year-old Craig Nelson Ross Jr.
It is recalled that Charlotte Senna’s family had gone on a camping trip when the 9-year-old disappeared in a wooded area of Moreau Lake State Park. When she didn’t return, her parents and neighboring campers began searching the area. Then her disappearance was reported to the police and investigations were immediately launched to locate her.
The questioning of the 47-year-old is expected to reveal his motives, since the authorities do not yet know if he is a pedophile or a thug who kidnapped the girl for money.
