Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday night called on the UN to intervene immediately to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe due to the “continued Israeli offensive, especially in Gaza”, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed to the Palestinian president that his country will continue its support for the Palestinians, stand by their side and make every effort to restore calm and stability in the Palestinian Territories.

At the same time, in Cairo, a representative of the Egyptian presidency announced that the president of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the crown prince of Saudi Arabia agreed that the “voice of reason” should prevail in the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.

Sisi and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who discussed developments in the conflict in a phone call, agreed that the continued escalation threatens the stability of the region, according to the spokesman.
