Joint statement on its exploitation Artificial Intelligence signed by Greece with the countries that participated in a conference of EU MED9 countries in Malta for Digital Governance. The acceptance of the joint declaration was carried out by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, while the country was represented at the conference by the General Secretary of Information Systems and Digital Governance, Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos.
Specifically, the joint statement was co-signed by Greece with Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Slovenia. The statement acknowledges the drastic influence of Artificial Intelligence on the digital future and emphasizes the urgent need to defend citizens’ rights while promoting innovation in the European Union. The European Artificial Intelligence Act provides the framework to ensure that the research, development and use of Artificial Intelligence complies with international ethical standards and principles that ensure human rights, the rule of law and democratic principles.
In summary, the EU MED9 agreed to jointly explore the possibility of developing AI applications to address the challenges of climate change in the Mediterranean as well as optimizing resource management and promoting sustainable practices. Furthermore, they committed to the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies with human-centered orientation, moral responsibility and respect for human rights. They also committed to investing in strong Artificial Intelligence infrastructure and research and development centers in the Mediterranean region as well as using its capabilities to improve the services provided by each country’s public sector to its citizens.
For these purposes, the countries encourage the exchange of know-howresearch and best practices in the field of Artificial Intelligence and agree to collaborate on initiatives to educate, upgrade the skills of citizens and executives, and ensure a “reservoir” of talent with expertise in the technologies of the time.
