Some in the bloc of 27 have already called for tighter borders, more repatriations of foreigners and new deals with African states
The Ministers of Migration of the European Union are meeting today Thursday to discuss improving security in the EU following the terrorist attacks in France and Belgium, as well as concerns that the war between Israel and Hamas could increase migration flows.
Some in the bloc of 27 have already called for tighter borders, more repatriations of foreigners and new deals with African states.
The terror attacks came at a time of heightened security concerns across much of Europe linked to the Israel-Hamas war.
“The implications of the situation in the Middle East for our internal security… are very relevant at the moment,” an EU diplomat involved in the preparation of the ministerial talks said, according to Reuters.
“Both in terms of the situation as it develops in the Middle East and what we see happening within the EU,” he added.
The ministers are not expected to make any concrete decisions, but will discuss issues such as what specific developments could force Palestinians to flee the country en masse or spark violence within the bloc.
