Google celebrates Halloween with a doodle – Meet the Anglo-Saxon holiday that “conquered” Greece
Trick or treat; A story about the celebration of Halloween presents in today’s Doodle Google, wanting to make us know better the Anglo-Saxon celebration that “conquered” Greece as well.
What is Halloween – The Etymology
Halloween is celebrated on the night of October 31st, during which young children dress up as monsters, pick up pumpkins, and visit homes collecting candy with the question “trick or treat?”. Halloween is an evolution of pagan holidays, and probably the ancient Celtic festival of Samhaim.
For the Celts this day marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, while at the same time the change of season was a “bridge” between the world of the living and the world of the dead.
Over the centuries, the celebration first took on a Christian color and was then transformed from a pagan ceremony into a masquerade day, with cheerful parades and treats for children and adults. The word comes from All-hallow-even, and denotes the eve of All Saints Day (All Hallows Day – All Saints Day).
