The White House spokeswoman recalled that Republican Mitt Romney appeared to maintain a lead over Democrat Barack Obama before the 2012 election, but the then-president prevailed comfortably and secured his re-election.
White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre advised reporters on Tuesday to be wary of poll results ahead of the 2024 presidential election, appearing undeterred by dire predictions for President Joe Biden.
Joe Biden is trailing Donald Trump in five of six key states a year before the US presidential election, according to a Siena Institute poll conducted on behalf of the New York Times newspaper and published on Sunday. In particular, Trump is ahead of Biden in Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Conversely, the current US president maintains a lead in Wisconsin over the Republican tycoon. The results in these six states are expected to largely determine the outcome of the presidential election.
“There will be many polls,” Karin Jean-Pierre said when asked about it by reporters. The polls should be taken with a grain of salt, the White House spokeswoman added, noting that Republican Mitt Romney appeared to hold a lead over Democrat Barack Obama before the 2012 election, but the then-president won comfortably and secured his re-election.
He also recalled that polls that discounted a Republican victory in the midterm elections in 2022 were not verified, as the conservative faction only won the House of Representatives and the Democrats retained control of the Senate.
