Sirens rang out in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas today as Hamas said it fired rockets deep into Israeli territory in “response” to the growing number of civilian deaths in the Gaza war.

Doctors said two women in Tel Aviv were injured by shrapnel. The attack follows a period of relative lull in rocket attacks as Israeli forces launch a ground offensive in Gaza in the fifth week of the war.

The military reported that somewhere 9,500 missiles, rockets and drones have been fired at Israel from Gaza and other fronts since October 7 and that 2,000 of them have been shot down by anti-aircraft defense systems designed so that the missiles land without causing damage in open areas.

About 12 percent of the rockets from Gaza, most of them locally manufactured, landed inside Palestinian territory, the military said.

“With the entry of (Israeli) forces on the ground, there was a significant decrease in the number of launches [ρουκετών]”, he said.
