Iran’s foreign minister had three phone conversations with his Egyptian counterpart, Iranian official says
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, Iran has focused on ending the war, lifting the blockade (of Gaza), immediately opening a corridor for sending humanitarian aid to the enclave, and dealing with the policy of forced displacement of the residents of the Strip.
Iran’s foreign minister had three phone conversations with his Egyptian counterpart and a positive meeting was also held on the sidelines of the recent Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Riyadh between the presidents of the two countries, Kanaani said.
He explained further that the opening of the passage of Rafa were among the main topics of Iran’s talks with Egypt.
He also said that the holding of the OIC summit was successful, adding that the meeting was held as a result of the diplomatic efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as the constructive cooperation of Saudi Arabia.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran presented its points at the expert meetings to draft the final resolution, and at the end of the meeting, Iran’s reservations were formally sent to the secretariat of this organization,” the spokesman noted. He was quick to add, however, that while the meeting was necessary, it was not enough, Irna news agency reports.
“The Palestinian nation expects that Islamic governments, in addition to holding meetings and issuing firm (supportive) statements, will also take practical measures,” he noted, adding that “severing political and economic relations with the Zionist regime and expelling the regime’s ambassadors should be on the agenda of Islamic governments.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed concern over the lack of a deterrent global response to the actions of the Zionist regime, pointing out that hospitals in Gaza are being targeted, and basic services such as water, electricity and fuel are being cut off. for the loss of innocent lives.
The Iranian official stressed that the statements of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are addressed to the governments of the United States, England, France and Germany, noting that the world must act “against the barbaric regime supported by the US and that Washington is complicit in committing unspeakable crimes.”
Kanaani also expressed Iran’s hope that the world will intervene to prevent these crimes and help the people of Gaza. He also expressed hope that the governments that have so far blocked the ceasefire will allow the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its peacekeeping duties.
“Despite the significant aid sent by Iran and other countries to Gaza, the aid did not reach the people due to the intervention of the Zionist regime. Most of the aid is stored in Egypt,” according to the spokesman.
The Iranian representative added that the amount of help is like a drop in the ocean, which indicates a violation of all international humanitarian laws and principles by the Zionist regime. He expressed Iran’s expectation that Egypt make more significant efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, an issue that has been a point of discussion in talks with the Egyptian side.
