As every year, this year the most important event in France on the third Thursday of November, i.e. today, is the arrival of the new Beaujolais (“le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé”), the most famous French wine in the world, after Champagne.

A wine that is probably more appreciated outside of France, since half of its bottles each year are exported to more than 100 countries in the world, while its consumption in France has been declining in recent years. A total of 9 million bottles of Beaujolais nouveau were released in 2021 compared to 6.5 million in 2022. Most of these are exported to Japan where 2.3 million bottles were consumed in 2022 and then to the USA where 1.2 million bottles were consumed in 2022.
