The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said this would mean the release of a total of 100 of the roughly 240 people Hamas captured during its bloody attack on southern Israel on October 7.
The agreement reached today Israel and the Hamas for the release of 50 hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners will be repeated later this month, a Palestinian official told Reuters.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said this would mean the release of a total of 100 of the roughly 240 people Hamas arrested during its bloody attack on southern Israel on October 7.
In exchange, Israel will release a total of 300 Palestinian prisoners in two exchanges — a number matching the list of female and teenage male prisoners it released today as candidates.
As part of the current deal, which is expected to begin implementation on Thursday, Israel will pause its nearly seven-week war on Gaza to allow for the phased recovery of the 50 hostages — all women or children — and the entry of aid to the Palestinians.
“The second group will follow the first group. It will take four or five days to organize this and it will include 50 Israelis (hostages) in exchange for 150 Palestinians (prisoners), the Palestinian official said. He said the prisoners would include elderly, women and children and the conditions will be the same.
Israeli officials did not immediately confirm this information. But Israel has offered, in a cabinet statement, to extend the pause by one day for every additional 10 hostages handed over by Hamas.
