According to the European Commission’s latest Eurobarometer survey, public support for the euro remains very strong. According to the survey, 79% of respondents think the euro is good for the EU and 69% think it is good for their country.

Furthermore, the results show a high level of support for the recovery and resilience mechanism, the instrument at the heart of NextGenerationEU. A large majority of respondents (70%) support the idea of ​​a recovery plan that would support all member states, provided they make green, digital and social investments and reforms.

The survey also gathered citizens’ views on issues related to euro coins and banknotes. According to the survey, 66% of those who responded were in favor of abolishing the 1 and 2 cent coins, a percentage that shows a high and stable level of support, with an absolute majority in all eurozone countries supporting the abolition in question.

The Eurobarometer survey was conducted through interviews with over 18,600 people from the 19 euro area member states between 2 and 9 October 2023. The full survey results are available here.
