The US Navy destroyer USS Mason shot down a drone launched by the Houthis from Yemen today, a US defense official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The drone was heading towards the destroyer, as the latter had been deployed to respond to reports of an attack on a merchant ship.

The US official said the Houthis had launched an attack on the Ardmore Encounter ship using small speedboats and then firing two missiles that missed the ship.

The Adrmore Encounter reported no damage or injuries and continued on its way, the US official said.

The incident comes a day after the Houthis said they had hit the Norwegian tanker Strinda with a missile, another attack by Yemen’s Shiite rebels in protest at Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

After a series of other similar attacks, the Houthis said on Saturday that they would take further action against all ships bound for Israel, regardless of who they belong to, unless humanitarian aid is urgently delivered to the Gaza Strip, while warning international shipping companies. not to do business with the Jewish state.
