Prince Harry expressed his satisfaction, through his lawyer, at the Mirror’s conviction and promised to continue to defend himself in court against the press
Prince Harry today succeeded in ordering the group that publishes the British tabloid Daily Mirror to pay him £140,600 (€163,000) in damages and interest for its articles resulting from audiomail hacking.
The judge ruled that 15 of the 33 disputed articles they arose from the interception of audio messages on the telephones of the youngest son of King Charles or his entourage.
The Daily Mirror Group “he apologized profusely.”
“We welcome today’s verdict which gives the business the clarity it needs to put behind it events that took place many years ago.” said a spokesman for Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), which publishes the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People.
Prince Harry expressed his satisfaction, through his lawyer, at the conviction of the Mirror and promised to continue to defend himself in justice against the press.
“The verdict issued today vindicates me and he inspires confidence in me,” said the Duke of Sussex’s lawyer David Sherborne. “The mission continues,” he added.
Prince Harry had denounced that since 1996 and for 15 years he had been a target of MGN and that more than 140 articles published in the group’s newspapers were the result of illegal intelligence gathering, although the trial involved only 33 of them. The judge found that illegal actions had contributed to 15 of them.
