European Commission President Ursula von de Leyen said today that the EU will find a solution to help Ukraine, after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s veto last night of a 50 billion euro bailout for Kiev.

An upcoming meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union in early 2024 is expected to allow the release of this aid. “Until then, we will use the time to ensure that whatever happens we have an operational solution during this session,” Ursula von der Leyen said.

“We are working very hard, of course, to reach an agreement between the 27 member states. But I think it is also necessary to work out potential alternatives in order to have an operational solution in the event that an agreement of the 27 will not be possible,” explained the von de Leyen during a press conference at the end of the European summit.
