THE US President Joe Biden talked to him by phone today Mexican counterpart of Andrés Manuel López Obradorwho had earlier stated that they were going to discuss the migratoryamid concerns about increased border flows and potential problems in trade.

The White House confirmed that the call was made, without providing further details.

Dozens of major U.S. farm unions urged the administration on Wednesday to reopen two rail lines on the Texas-Mexico border to reopen trade routes that have been closed due to increased immigration flows. The White House responded that it was working with Mexico to resolve the issues that led to the closure of the two rail lines.

López Obrador said at the daily press conference that he concedes that it was Biden who requested the communication between them. When asked what they would discuss, he replied: “I think immigration. Let’s see what he will suggest.”

Biden, who is seeking re-election in next year’s election, is under intense pressure to limit the number of migrants trying to cross the border illegally from Mexico.
