A Palestinian was killed early today in a raid by the Israeli army in Ramallah, West Bank, during which searches were carried out at currency exchange offices accused by Israel of transferring money to Hamas, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

A young Palestinian, Hazem Ghatawi, was killed and 14 others were injured, four of them by bullets, in the clashes that broke out with Israeli soldiers, Wafa clarified.

Three more Palestinians they were arrested by the army “in their homes”, according to the same source.

The Israeli military conducted investigations in several foreign exchange offices and “seized 10 million shekels” (about 2.4 million euros) in various cities in the occupied West Bank, according to the same source.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that the operation against the foreign exchange offices came after Minister Yoav Galand signed “an order classifying them as terrorist organizations” as Israeli authorities accuse them of funneling funds to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the two main Palestinian armed groups Organisations.

The Israeli military announced that its forces had conducted a “wide-ranging operation to seize Hamas terrorist funds” in the West Bank. In his statement he adds that “millions of shekels” were seized and “21 people wanted for possession of terrorist funds” were arrested.

These investigations were conducted amid the war between Israel and Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, which erupted after a bloody October 7 attack by its fighters on Israeli soil that killed some 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.

In retaliation, Israel, which has vowed to “eliminate” Hamas, is carrying out a bombing and ground operation in the small Palestinian enclave where more than 21,110 people, mostly civilians, have been killed, according to the latest tally from the Hamas government.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, the occupied West Bank is facing a major resurgence of violence.

At least 314 Palestinians have been killed there by soldiers and in some cases by Israeli settlers since October 7, according to a count by the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry.
