The US Navy cruiser USS Gravely on Saturday shot down two missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthis against a cargo ship in the Red Sea, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced. .

According to a CENTCOM update via the X platform (formerly Twitter), at around 20:30 (Yemen time, 19:30 Greece time) on Saturday, the cargo ship Maersk Hangzhou reported that it was hit by a missile while sailing in the southern Red Sea. The Danish-owned, Singapore-flagged vessel requested assistance and the US cruisers USS Gravely and USS Laboon immediately responded.

CENTCOM announced that the USS Gravely intercepted and shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles that were fired from an area controlled by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The cargo ship Maersk Hangzhou was deemed seaworthy and no injuries were reported from the attack, the same statement said.

This is the 23rd attack launched by the Houthis against ships in the Red Sea since November 19, according to CENTCOM.
