US President Joe Biden tonight accused Donald Trump, his potential opponent in the November presidential election, of sacrificing American democracy on the altar of power, in a speech in Pennsylvania on the occasion of his three-year anniversary on Saturday since the January 6, 2021 attacks on the US Capitol.

Trump’s campaign is “only focused on him, not America,” Biden said. He also claimed that the former president is “willing to sacrifice our democracy” to rise to power.

The upcoming election is about whether democracy is still the sacred cause of America,” he added.

Biden also accused Trump of using “Nazi Germany” rhetoric. “He’s talking about the poisoned blood of Americans, using exactly the same language they used in Nazi Germany,” he said, arguing that Trump refuses to renounce political violence.

“Defending, protecting and safeguarding democracy will remain a central purpose of my presidency,” he added.
