As it states, “the effects of the cold weather are likely to be felt across the health service for an extended period of time.”
Orange cold alerts are in place for north, central and west England until midday on Friday, while lower yellow alerts are in place for east and south England, including London.
Also there are warnings about frost on the pavement in the mornings.
All this while during the night the mercury dropped to -7 points Celsius in Scotland, -5 in Northern Ireland and -2 in Somerset, England. In London and Birmingham the thermometer showed 0 degrees at dawn.
Weather forecasters predict snowfalls in the following days, in some cases quite heavy.
For this reason they are still valid approx 300 warnings or alarms for floodsdue to the saturated soil from the prolonged and heavy rains of the previous interval.
A total of more than 1,800 houses were flooded, in various regions of the country.
Moreover, the problems in the railway network due to the storms of the previous days continue, although to a lesser extent.
