The United States issued today new sanctions against individuals linked to the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas and against a person associated with the Iraqi low-cost airlines Fly Baghdad, states the website of the US Department of Finance.

Alongside and the United Kingdom imposed new sanctions on individuals linked to Hamas, including financiers and senior officials of the militant group under the international terrorism sanctions regime in Britain. London says these measures will help cut off funding to Hamas, including from Iran.

This decision was taken in coordination with the United States.

Measures also include sanctions against a high-ranking official of the Palestinian organization Islamic Jihad, according to a government announcement.

The British sanctions mainly target Zuhair Shamlah, known as Hamas’ “main money changer” and a key figure involved in the organization’s move to cryptocurrencies, who helped transfer large sums of money from Iran to Hamas in the run-up to the October 7 attacks against southern Israel, says the British Foreign Office.

“These sanctions send a clear message to Hamas – the UK and our partners are committed to ensuring that there is no place for those financing terrorist activities to hide,” said British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
