Gunmen killed nine foreigners during an attack on a residence in southeastern Iran near the border with Pakistan, Iranian media reported.

“According to eyewitnesses, gunmen killed nine people, non-Iranians, in a residence near the town of Saravan” in Sistan-Baluchistan province, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iran and Pakistan they often accuse each other of allowing armed groups to operate from each other’s territory by carrying out attacks.

On January 16, Iran launched a missile and drone attack against a “terrorist organization” on Pakistani soil, which responded on January 18 with attacks against “terrorist hideouts” in Iran.

In total, 11 people were killed in the attacks, mostly women and children, according to authorities.

They caused a brief diplomatic crisis, Pakistan recalled its ambassador to Tehran and announced that the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, who was in his country, would be prevented from returning to Islamabad.

However, on January 22, the two countries announced the normalization of relations and the upcoming visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to Islamabad.
