The former Welsh Guards officer looked after the princes after the untimely death of their mother Princess Diana
Negotiating “peace” between William and Harry is not an easy task… However, if anyone can do it, it’s him Mark Dyeraccording to the British newspaper “The Telegraph” and the “Daily Mail”.
The first describes the man who was King Charles III’s bodyguard and Prince William’s tutor during his childhood and teenage years as “fierce but fair”.

Dyer, 56, not only protected and cared for the boys after the untimely death of their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997, but also earned their trust. In fact, Dyer was known as the children’s ‘second father’, which shows how close they are. Now, he is seen as the only one who could bridge the gap between Harry and William.
All eyes are on the British monarchy since Monday, February 5, when it became known that Mr King Charles diagnosed with cancer. The next day, attention turned to Harry, who immediately flew from Los Angeles to London to see his father. The visit was brief – they saw each other for about 30 minutes at Clarence House in their first meeting in 17 months. The next day, Harry returned to the United States. The Duke of Sussex did not see his busy brother, Prince William, who has taken the center stage of the royal family’s public activities.
The two brothers have become deeply estranged, especially after the publication of Harry’s memoirs, “Spare”in which he makes scathing accusations against the future king, and the release of the Netflix documentary, “Henry and Meghan”. But hopes of reconciliation remain as the discreet Dyer continues to work his magic, or so the British press believes.
The former Welsh Guards officer, who served as the king’s aide in the 1990s, knows first-hand what can be going through King Charles III’s mind because Dyer himself has battled stomach cancer in last two years.
“Pleasant and Crafty”, as the Telegraph describes him, Dyer has now retired from royal service and in 2009 successfully set up and ran a chain of pubs – eight years later, he sold them for more than £10m. Dyer made Harry his son’s godfather, and Harry followed suit with his son Archie, who was born in 2019.
The close relationship between them goes back many years… He was assigned to visit William during his stay at Eton boarding school, which Harry later attended, and, according to the British media, he encouraged the latter’s love affairs protecting him from the paparazzi.
Mark Dyer later accompanied Harry on his trips to Australia and Argentina, acting as the royal biographer, Penny Junorto describe him as one of the “few people who can talk sense into Harry”. As she wrote in 2014 in her book “Prince Harry Brother, Soldier, Son”, “he had done a wonderful job supporting and guiding both princes in their teenage years and showing them something of the world… The press thought he was a bad influence, but he did a good job for them. He was there for them when they needed advice that they didn’t get from their father.”
Since Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties and left for California in 2020, it seems that friends, courtiers and relatives were forced to choose sides. They will quietly line up with team Harry or team William, notes the Telegraph, and those who choose to side with Harry, the paper argues, are being ostracized by William. In contrast, Dyer – who has been friends with both princes for decades but is closer to Harry – appears to have avoided the Prince of Wales’ rejection. According to the British press, while there is no direct communication between the brothers, Dyer is believed to act as a sort of go-between for Harry to keep in touch with his former life in the UK.
