Fourteen people were injured today, two of them seriously, when a tree fell on a roller coaster at PortAventura in Tarragona, eastern Spain, the theme park said today.

“This morning, due to gale-force winds … there was an incident that caused a tree to fall near the Tomahawk roller coaster,” the theme park, popular with tourists on Spain’s Costa Dorada, said.

“Some of the branches hit guests riding the roller coaster,” the statement added.

Catalonia’s emergency services said they helped 14 people. Two who were in critical condition were taken to two different hospitals. Three people with less serious injuries were also taken to hospital.
