The French foreign minister Stéphane Cezournet warned on Monday that Europe must urgently prepare for the possibility that the US will not protect NATO allies who are underspending on defence.
THE Donald Trump stated that the US may not protect NATO allies, which they do not pay enough in the field of defense from a possible Russian invasion.
“Everyone has heard in recent days the statements of the Republican candidate in the American elections. I will stop at nothing to convince all leaders of the suitability of our alliance, which works to the benefit of everyone, including the US,” Cezournet said at a joint press conference with his German and Polish counterparts.
“Every minute counts for the Europeans to prepare to absorb the shock of a scenario outlined by Donald Trump and we will work together to analyze the context, in particular of the US election,” said Céjourn.
