THE leader of the Houthis said today that Iran-backed Yemeni rebels have not allowed any ships linked to Israel to pass through the Gulf of Aden.

“The Americans and the British failed to ensure the passage of any ship headed for Israel. They can no longer protect either American or British ships. This is a real and great victory for us”, stressed Mr Abdel Malik al-Houthi in a televised speech.

The Houthi rebels – who control Yemen’s most populous areas – have repeatedly launched attacks on merchant ships in Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden, as a sign of “solidarity” with the Palestinians in Gaza Strip.

Although the armed forces of USA and their allies have multiplied their operations in Yemen and off the war-torn country to protect shipping, the Houthis continue their drone and missile attacks, forcing many companies to reroute their ships to the African patrol.
