“The current state of the talks does not allow us to say that we have a satisfactory solution for the Polish side or Polish farmers,” said Jan Gabriecz
The head of his office Polish Prime Minister told AFP today that Warsaw and Kiev are far from an agreement on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products that have been blocked at the border by angry Polish farmers.
“The current state of the talks does not allow us to say that we have a satisfactory solution for the Polish side or Polish farmers. We are far from such an agreement,” said Jan Gabriech after the Ukrainian prime minister went to a border post hoping in vain to meet Polish officials.
The president of Ukraine sent the prime minister today Dennis Schmihal at the border to try to find a solution to the crisis between the countries, but no meeting with Polish officials took place.
“Unfortunately, so far there is no Ukrainian proposal that would allow us to hope for a way out of the deadlock in trade relations,” Gabryets said.
“A meeting of this type does not, in our opinion, make sense at the moment,” he added, when asked about the absence of the Polish side in a meeting with the Ukrainian prime minister at the border.
“There are no mutually satisfactory solutions and it is useless to organize a meeting to confirm that there is no compromise,” he stressed.
On Thursday, the Polish prime minister Donald Tusk he recalled that a meeting between the Polish and Ukrainian governments will take place “as agreed” on March 28 in Warsaw.
The head of the Polish government assured that he is “in permanent contact” with his Ukrainian counterpart.
