One of Alexei Navalny’s close associates was attacked with a hammer outside his home in Vilnius, Lithuania on Tuesday, announced the late Russian opposition leader’s former spokeswoman, Kira Yarmish.

“Volkov was just attacked outside his home. Someone broke the car window and sprayed him in the eyes, before starting to beat Leonid with a hammer,” she wrote in a post on the social networking platform X (formerly Twitter).

Photos of the injured Leonid Volkov were circulated through social networks, while according to information his condition does not inspire concern. Volkov had directly accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being responsible for Navalny’s death in prison on February 16.

Lithuanian police said they were informed that a man had been beaten outside his home and added that they were investigating the case.

Many members of the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by Alexei Navalny have left Russia and settled in Lithuania, a member of the European Union and NATO.
