“We have stood in support of a country that has been attacked which has violated every international rule,” the head of Italian diplomacy said.
In the Russian-Ukrainian war and the role and strategy of Europe and the Atlantic Alliance (NATO), he mentioned in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Specifically, Tajani stated to the Milan newspaper:
“Nobody within NATO has ever talked about immediate military intervention, we know very well what kind of consequences a conflict could have, which would risk developing into a nuclear one. And I add: NATO itself has decided that Ukraine will be able to become a member only after the end of the war, because with the possibility of immediate membership we would be obliged to intervene in favor of a country of the Alliance, which is under attack.”
“We have stood in support of a country that was attacked in violation of every international rule. It is a country located at the gates of Europe. Our goal, however, is to achieve peace, not to expand the war. And that’s why we’re helping Ukraine endure, why they won’t be left alone, so we can reach an end to hostilities, without one country occupying another. But this has nothing to do, I say clearly, with our direct intervention,” added the head of Italian diplomacy.
