According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the strikes “targeted Hezbollah weapons depots in Yambrud district”, near Damascus, “and destroyed them and caused a fire”.
The non-governmental organisation, which is based in the UK but has an extensive network of sources in Syria, did not report any casualties.
For its part, a military source cited by the official Syrian media claimed that “the Israeli enemy carried out an air strike from the occupied Golan, which targeted military positions” in the Damascus region.
The same source added that the Syrian air defense took action and “shot down missiles”.
Since the start of Syria’s civil war in 2011, the Israeli military has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in the neighboring country, mostly targeting pro-Iranian groups, including the Shiite Islamist movement Hezbollah, which is fighting alongside the regime.
The Israeli military has intensified strikes since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023 between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.
