Birth and marital status certificates are being abolished, they will be drawn directly from Gov.gr, said the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance
The abolition of the issuance of certificates by citizens was announced by the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos Kyranakis, speaking on the “Mismatched” show of SKAI about the bill for the new digital services that is being introduced today for debate in the Parliament.
Mr. Kyranakis, regarding the bill and what it provides, stated that “citizens want a reduction in bureaucracy and this bill is coming which abolishes certificates, abolishes the obligation of citizens to issue certificates from the public and to submit them to other public services.
In particular, explaining the exact procedure by which public services will have access to citizens’ data, he said that “today the bill allows a public body to extract the data contained in a certificate and another public body, if you you consent as you will be informed about this through Wallet, it will manage the data on your behalf without the need to digitally or formally issue any certificate at all.”
“With the bill, the most popular of the certificates such as the ‘birth’ and ‘marital status’ certificates are abolished, added Mr. Kyranakis.
He added that “this will also be extended to the private sector, that is: telecommunications, energy providers, insurance companies instead of telling you to renew your contract “come and sign a paper” they will ask through the wallet if someone agrees to manage specific data and if you agree you won’t need to do anything else.”
Asked about the security of personal data, Mr. Kyranakis emphasized that “everything that is handled digitally, the process is completely controllable and traceable as to who manages the data and where it goes and who can leak it. There is no such thing as doing something illegal and leaving no trace.”
Responding to Ms. Asimakopoulou’s case and the leak of personal data, the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance commented that “a foul has been committed” and there is a law that must be respected while explaining that “this particular leak was not done through digital systems, justice will say how it happened”.
