Attacks intensify from both sides with barrage of attacks – Three-story building in central Kyiv damaged
The attacks between Russia and Ukraine have been intensifying in recent days. Several explosions were heard this morning in central Kiev, shortly after sirens sounded warning of a Russian air strike against the Ukrainian capital, according to AFP reporters.
At least five explosions were heard around 10:30 (local and Greek time).
“Explosions in the capital. Hurry to the shelters!”, Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko wrote on Telegram.
According to Kyiv authorities, debris from a rocket fell in a district of the capital and a residential building was damaged.
Officials said a three-story building in central Kiev was heavily damaged by a Russian attack. “In the (central) Pechersk region, a multi-story non-residential building was damaged,” the city’s military administration wrote on Telegram.
Emergency power outages in Odessa
In parallel, Odessa authorities reported earlier on Telegram that the city and the region were targeted by several drone attacks launched by Russia
Emergency power outages hit Odessa, Ukraine today after one of the city’s high-voltage installations was damaged by a Russian airstrike, Ukrainian energy company DTEK said.
“The situation remains difficult,” DTEK said on Telegram. “In order to reduce the load on the grid, the electric means of transport in the city will not operate, while the electricity consumption by the industries will remain limited,” he explained.
Odessa authorities reported on Telegram that the city and the region have been targeted by several drone attacks launched by Russia. Four of them were shot down over Odesa and Mykolife regions.
Russian ship “destroyed” by Ukrainian attacks
Meanwhile, one of the Russian amphibious ships hit during a recent missile attack in occupied Crimea “suffered serious damage,” Ukraine’s military intelligence service (HUR) said.
Ukraine’s military on Sunday claimed to have hit two large Russian amphibious ships as well as other infrastructure used by the Russian navy in the Black Sea during nighttime raids on the annexed Crimean peninsula.
“Ukraine’s defense forces successfully hit the large amphibious ships Azov and Yamal, a communications center and also several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in temporarily occupied Crimea,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement.
In a Telegram post on Monday, Ukraine’s military intelligence service said that the “Yamal” suffered “a hole in the upper deck which caused it to roll to the right side.’
THE Ukraine claimed to have destroyed about a third of the Russian fleet of the Black Sea since the start of the war, usually in attacks at night using maritime drones packed with explosives.
