An Islamist organization in Lebanon had earlier announced the death of seven “rescuers” who were killed in an Israeli strike against the village of Habariye, near the border with Israel
A factory worker in the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona was killed today by a rocket fired from Lebanon, the Israeli Ambulance Service announced.
Rescuers from the Magen David Adom Ambulance Service said a 25-year-old man was pulled from the wreckage of the factory with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah announced for its part that it fired dozens of rockets at Kiryat Shmona, in response to Israeli strikes on a border village in southern Lebanon overnight, which killed seven “rescuers”.
Lebanese Islamist group Jama’a Islamiyya had earlier announced the death of seven “rescuers” killed in an Israeli strike against the village of Habariyeh, near the border with Israel, denouncing “a heinous crime”.
“In retaliation for the massacre committed by the Zionist enemy in the village of Hambarige,” Hezbollah launched “dozens of rockets against Kiryat Shmona,” the organization said in a statement.
A Jama’a Islamiyya official told AFP earlier, speaking on condition of anonymity, that “seven rescuers” were killed while at a medical center in Habariyeh.
Another official of the organization pointed out that about ten rescuers were in the medical center at the time of the strike.
Various organizations in Lebanon, including Jama’a Islamiyya, run medical centers.
The Lebanese news agency ANI reported that “the Israeli air force raid” killed seven rescuers, injured four civilians and destroyed the health center.
For its part, the Israeli army pointed out that “warplanes targeted a military complex” where there was a “major terrorist who was preparing attacks against Israeli territory.”
He added that the man “was neutralized, as were other terrorists who were with him.”
Since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel on October 7 in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah and other Palestinian-allied organizations have engaged in almost daily exchanges of fire with Israeli forces along Lebanon’s southern border.
Israel responds by bombing deeper and deeper into Lebanese territory and launching attacks against Hezbollah and Hamas operatives.
At least 338 people have been killed in Lebanon — most of them Hezbollah fighters but also nearly 57 civilians — in gunfire since the war broke out in Gaza, according to an AFP tally. At the same time, thousands of people in southern Lebanon have been forced to leave their homes.
Ten soldiers and eight civilians have been killed in northern Israel, according to the army.
