US officials said they believe the vehicle belonged to personnel working on the bridge at the time of the collapse.
At least a large vehicle remains submerged on the Patapsco River in Baltimore after the bridge collapsed, Maryland State Police Chief Col. Roland Butler said Thursday night. The vehicle is buried under tons of debris, and it is likely that they are in it the four missing, or some of them.
US officials said they believe the vehicle belonged to personnel working on the bridge at the time of the collapse. Wreckage from the bridge and pieces of reinforced concrete are also underwater, he said Butler.
“It will take some time cto get to them and it’s going to take some time to do it carefully, and then get them all out before we can finally to recover whatever is in this vehicle” Butler said.
On his part, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott told reporters Thursday night that he remains hopeful that the four victims who are still missing will be located.
“We remain hopeful that during this rescue operation, we will be able to recover the missing (s.s. bodies) and bring them home,” Scott said. A huge crane has been mobilized for these works.
The lifeless bodies of the two of the six workers who died in the icy waters of Baltimore were pulled out Wednesday.
