“Guns riding in a vehicle” opened fire on a group of people in a southern district of the city of Guayaquil
At least eight people were killed and eight injured yesterday, Saturday, in Ecuador, during an armed attack in Guayaquil (southwest Ecuador), the police announced.
This is the third armed attack with dead people that took place within two days in this country.
“Armed men riding in a vehicle” opened fire on a group of people in a southern district of the city around 6:55 p.m. (local time, 02:55 Greek time), police said in a statement.
“Two people were killed on the spot” and the others succumbed to their injuries, police said, adding that the eight injured have been taken into custody.
Five tourists, citizens of Ecuador, were kidnapped and killed the day before yesterday, Friday, on the beach of Ayabe, also in southwestern Ecuador, when armed men mistook them for members of a rival gang.
On the same day, four people, including an army officer, were killed in the town of Manda, in the province of Manabi (southwest Ecuador).
Ecuador, once an oasis of peace in Latin America, has been plagued by violence after becoming the main export hub for cocaine produced in Peru and Colombia.
