Western countries are trying to create an almost insurmountable confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the start of talks in Moscow with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Megdat, stressing that the two countries will not allow the West to undermine Russia-Syria strategic relations.
“The situation in the world is evolving rapidly, including North Africa and Middle East issues, including the settlement of the Syrian issue. To our great regret, our own efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2254 are being influenced by the atmosphere currently being cultivated by our Western counterparts, in an attempt to create an almost insurmountable confrontation between Russia. “and the Western alliance,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov said that “we will not allow such attempts to undermine our ability to achieve concrete results, or to negatively affect the development of the closest strategic relations between Russia and Syria.”
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the presidents of Russia and Syria are setting the goals set before Moscow and Damascus. “I am convinced that today we will be able to discuss … how specifically we will promote these goals and implement them in practice,” Lavrov concluded.
