The Russian war correspondent Semyon Ereminwho worked for the Russian newspaper Izvestiawas killed yesterday Friday in a Ukrainian drone strike in southeastern Ukraine, according to the newspaper itself.

As the Russian newspaper reported, 42-year-old Eremin was fatally wounded when a Ukrainian drone attack occurred while he was returning from a trip to a Russian unit in the Zaporizhia region.

“Her war correspondent Izvestia Semyon Eremin was killed on April 19 during an attack by Ukrainian drones in the direction of Zaporizhia where he had gone to report,” according to the newspaper.

There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side.

Eremin had covered for Izvestia some of the bloodiest fighting in the eastern regions of Ukraine in the 25 months of the war. Among them, the battle to capture Mariupol, which was besieged by Russian troops for almost three months in 2022.

At least 15 journalists have been killed in the war since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, a non-governmental organization that promotes press freedom around the world.
